Boston: Twitter and Facebook Bicycle Thieves Hunt Down

boston bike twitterAnother creative way to bring the power of social media into play – Boston is launching its bicycle thieves hunt down via Twitter and Facebook.

This campaign is built to alert the Boston community whenever a bicycle is missing or found; a great example of how social media could help reduce crime rates!

Twitter and Facebook have proven to be great communities where help is often extended to those who need it. It definitely makes the bicycle thief think twice before acting on his foolishness.

To report a missing bicycle, simply fill in a form including a description of the bike and the time and location it was last seen. We applaud Boston’s effort in its deterrence method; something other police forces might want to adopt!

But I am sure all the other prisoners currently serving their term wouldn’t be pleased by his whistle-blowing. This would probably give warders a wake up call for being too relaxed on the rules. Perhaps they could start using social media to look out for suspicious activities too – just like how Boston police uses Twitter and Facebook to nab bicycle thieves. [...]
