After one year of painstaking user testing and tweaking, the new yahoo homepage is finally here. U.S users will get to see the final masterpiece tomorrow and it would slowly be available to users in other countries.
Besides a new design and some rearrangements, new features were added. “My Favorites” section can be customized with a variety of widgets. With a little personalization, you can choose to view your Facebook activity from the Yahoo homepage or get timely news from your favorite news website such as New York Times.
Personally, I feel that Yahoo has gotten itself a cleaner and better design. It is also making efforts to integrate social media and email into the homepage; with the goal that it would be the only page you’d need to start the day. However, when you hover over the “My Favorites” tabs, it will result in distracting pop-ups that might frustrate some people. Moreover, I am also not sure if users would welcome some of the rearrangements, such as the new position found by “Popular Searches”.
From the feedback of many test users, the new Yahoo homepage is just a waste of time and many are asking for the old homepage back. I think users just got to adapt with changes because I do see some improvements from the old page and it’s definitely going to be more engaging and dynamic than before.
Users from other countries can preview and try out the new homepage here.
