RIP Sir Bobby Robson: 1933 – 2009

180px-Bobby_Robson_CroppedFormer England Football manager, Sir Bobby Robson passed away in his home after losing a long battle against cancer. He left us at the age of 76.

Sir Bobby Robson had been a great footballer. He committed his career life to PSV Eindhoven, Sporting Lisbon, FC Porto and Barcelona before he returned to his North-East roots at Newcastle United in 1999.

It was just five days ago when thousands of fans crowded into Newcastle United’s St James’ Park to pay tribute to him and raise funds for his cancer charity.

Since the 1990s, his life was plagued by bower cancer (1992), malignant melanoma (1995), tumour in right lung (2006) and a brain tumour (2006).

It was after his fifth diagnosis with cancer that Sir Bobby Robson decided to devote his remaining life to setting up the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation. The Foundation was launched on 25 March 2008 and has the goal to fund early cancer detection and cancer related researches.

Let us remember and spread the name of Sir Bobby Robson via social media. In memory of him as a great footballer, fighter and philanthropist.
