This Twitter-like website for food is the latest micro-blogging site that has come to our social media world. The southern California based company hopes to give foodies a meeting place to share food interests and catch up on the latest food news. Instead of a “Tweet”, each short message is called a “Bite”; consisting a maximum of 160 characters. It seems to be targeting a niche market within the Twitter fanatics community.
The Community & Bites
As said earlier, Bite in FoodBite is equivalent to Tweet in Twitter. In other words, a short post. The community is made up of people who can’t be very much separated from food. It is made up of food lovers (like me), chefs, recipe creators, food gurus and restaurant owners. The content in each bite ranges from food recommendations and recipes to dining experience.
Features in Brief
The overall features are akin to Twitter. I shall state the difference instead.
Like Facebook, your followers can comment directly on your bites. The weird thing is, you can’t reply the comment via that very same bite.
What’s food without a little fun? Whip up a few dishes from the recipe section, which is armed with user generated recipes. You can share your own recipe as well!
Some Thoughts
FoodBite could very well be the next micro-blogging giant that consolidates all things culinary in one site, wiping out many existing food portals. From the business perspective, it is certainly an exciting site for the food-related industry players. If your work is related to food or dinning, you should not miss this out!
I can pretty much bet that loads of niche Twitter-like platforms would spring up in near future, especially if platforms like FoodBite were to become a success. Watch out for them!
