Top 10 Twitter Apps

Twitter BirdIf you search the exact words, “Top 10 Twitter applications” on Google, you’ll find that there are many websites and blogs giving you their opinions on what they think should be the top 10 Twitter applications.

What I did was to let my 30,000 odd followers choose the rightful top 10 Twitter applications. A simple question was posted on my Twitter:

“What’s one Twitter application that you cannot live without?”

Here are the top 10 applications recommended by the Tweeple themselves and not based on traffic to the Twitter applications’ websites:

1. Tweetdeck

It is official. Tweetdeck has been voted the number 1”can’t live without” application. Without a doubt, Tweetdeck is the most popular application that enables you to tweet from your desktop without the need to log in from the web browser. What’s more, Tweetdeck took over other applications when it came out its own version for iphone.

2. Twitpic

Twitpic is an app that allows users to share photos on Twitter. It is not difficult to notice that most Tweeple use Twitpic as their only application to share and view pictures.

3. Twittercounter

Twittercounter is an application that enables users to track how many followers they get daily, along with other statistics and features. It’s similar to Twitterholic, which is also voted top 10. What separates them is that Twittercounter has many more statistical information and features and is able to update traffic count several times a day. Twittercounter is without a doubt my favorite application to monitor my followers growth.

4. Twitterfeed

Twitterfeed is an application that offers to automatically tweet latest posts published on a user’s blog through its RSS feeds. Users simply need to select how regular Twitterfeed should check for new posts, how long each tweet should be and what content from RSS to post. Updates from RSS would be sent to twitter automatically while they are busy at work, sleeping or at play.

5. Twitterific

Many Mac users are using this now and it is also the top application used by iphone owners. However, Twitterific lost many users after Tweetdeck launched its own iphone application.

6. Tweetie

Tweetie is another application that enables one to post tweet via iphone; just like Twitterific.

7. Twitterholic

It is a less popular version of Twittercounter, tracking users’ followers growth. It also regularly updates a Twitterholic ranking list, which is based on “crawling” (tracking) users. Popular users who tweet constantly are “crawled” everyday while others are “crawled” randomly.

8. Twhirl

Twhirl is another desktop application based on Adobe AIR platform; just like tweetdeck. Twhirl has recently been bought over by Seesmic.

9. Twellow

Twellow is the yellow pages of Twitter. One can find other Twitter users based on similar interests such as Internet marketing and so on. It is a platform to find very targeted followers. You can read more here.

10. Twitter karma

Although many marketers would not admit to using this application, we should all understand the temptation. Twitter karma removes followers who do not follow back. It’s a useful application for Internet marketers or people who are wants to find the right followers-following balance.
