Android vs iPhone and OS Chrome vs Mac OS. (we never know what would be next!)
As Google constantly enters new markets threatening Apple’s market share, both Apple and Schmidt reached a mutual agreement that it is best to part.
“I have very much enjoyed my time on the Apple Board; it’s a fantastic company,” said Schmidt in a statement. “But as Apple explained today we’ve agreed it makes sense for me to step down now.”
Schmidt had excused himself from attending portions of Apple’s board meetings when conflicts of interest or Google related issues arose. But CEO Steve Jobs said Schmidt would have to leave much larger portions of the meetings after Google announced OS Chrome last month, which was seen as a direct threat to the Apple’s Mac OS.

“Eric has been an excellent board member for Apple, investing his valuable time, talent, passion and wisdom to help make Apple successful,” said Apple CEO Steve Jobs in a statement. “Unfortunately, as Google enters more of Apple’s core businesses, with Android and now Chrome OS, Eric’s effectiveness as an Apple board member will be significantly diminished.”
