Happy Friendship Day, my friends!
What’s life without a couple of dear friends? Social media for one would have no meaning if relationships were not forged through it.
In 1935, to honor the warmth of friendship and the friends we have around us, United States Congress declared the first Sunday of August as the National Friendship Day. Since then, people from all around the world have celebrated friendship on this special day.
It is no different here at Penn Olson! Just to let you know how important friendship is to the world, I would like to share with you…
Some Fun Facts
1. International Friendship Month is February (Missed it? You still have today!)
2. In 1999, Kappa Delta Sorority created Women’s Friendship Day, which is celebrated on the third Sunday of September every year. Whether it’s your mum, sister or girl friends, remember to spend time with them on this significant day!

4. In 1997, the United Nations named Winnie the Pooh as the world’s Ambassador of Friendship. That’s my favorite cartoon character by the way!
5. Old Friends, New Friends Week is the third week of May. You don’t have to wait till then to make new friends though.
6. How can we forget man’s best friend? Best Friends Weekend is an occasion established by the Best Friends Animal Society. The first day of the weekend is called Best Friends’ Day and it is celebrated every year from June 23 – June 25 to honor and protect the rights of animals.
Unconsciously, people are celebrating Friendship all year round. So before you go back to neglecting your friends (just kidding!), let us call to mind the beautiful memories we had and those we are going to create through the next few songs!
