We know how celebrities are blessed with fame and recognition. Getting tons of followers is almost effortless to some of them. Nonetheless, fame slips away just as quickly as it comes if you don’t know how to bottle it.
It is important for celebrities to engage in social media because it “humanizes” them and removes the filter that traditionally separates celebrities and their fans. It helps celebrities stay relevant and involved; allowing them to build real relationships directly with the public.
In this article, we will have a look at how some celebs snowball fame on social media.
Challenge Fame
The Ashton Kutcher effect as they call it got many celebrities interested in being part of the social media frenzy. As we all know by now, challenging CNN to become the first tweeter to hit 1,000,000 followers has helped Ashton become the top tweeter; even until today. In fact, thanks to this challenge, his Facebook Page hit 1,000,000 fans before Twitter did. Now with more than 3 million followers on Twitter alone, Ashton has more influence in social media than any other celebrity.
But you didn’t think that would put him at rest did you? Besides being the top tweeter, Ashton also succeeds in getting on Twitter’s top trending topic once in a while. An example would be Ashton on ustream.tv, which allows fans to watch him live on whatever he is doing and comment on it. Talking about engagement! Ashton wins all!
YouTube has also recently posted a challenge on Vin Diesel, Megan Fox, Will Smith, Lady Gaga and Adam Sandler. Even if it does not win, it has gotten itself some attention.
Be Active and Engaging
Pete Wentz is active on both Tumblr and Twitter, updating about his personal life and work frequently. He also engages with followers by communicating with them through tweets.
Tweet Live on TV
The Ellen Show is one of my favorite shows and on several occasions, you would catch her tweeting live while she interviews other celebrities. This creates excitement amongst fans, as they are able to view her tweets even when she is live on set!
Here’s how Ellen explains Twitter before rallying for followers
Allow People in
The only way to keep fans interested is to let them poke their noses into your lives. Michael Phelps and Lady Gaga did just that on Facebook and got themselves thousands of fans liking and commenting on their updates. As long as people are talking about you, your fame continues to brew.

By establishing their presence on social media, celebs keep their fame burning. Most of all, they can instill loyalty in fans by keeping them engaged and entertained.
