Follow Friday, which is better known as #followfriday or #ff is a hashtag used on Twitter set to happen every FRIDAY (duh.. otherwise why is it called Follow Friday?). It was started by Micah Baldwin to encourage people to suggest great tweeple that they think others should follow as well.
To make a hashtag on Twitter, you would need the # symbol. The symbol is recognised and tracked by Twitter search.
Here is an example of a #followfriday
History of #followfriday
On a very fine day, Micah Baldwin was musing on how proud he was to have known some of his friends (Danny and Jeffrey) and he wanted more people to know and follow them on Twitter. He then decided to send this tweet:
Immediately after, one of his friends replied:
On that very day, #followFriday was born.
Here is a recent chart that shows the number of mentions of #followfriday on Twitter. That’s close to 50,000 mentions on Friday, July 31 and the effect lingers for the rest of the week!
