So what has the new homepage and Bing deal done for Yahoo so far? A growth surge in search share perhaps.
All searches increased by 5% in July but while all major search engines grew, Yahoo experienced the highest growth of 11%. It now takes up 17.1% of search share, up from 16.2% in June.
While the growth could be explained with the recent Yahoo buzz but what we want to know is, in whose expense?
Who else but Google? Its search share dropped by 1.3% to 64.8% in July. Bing’s share increased by 0.2% to hit 9% and together with Yahoo, takes up 26.1% of total search share.
Even with a loss of share, Google is still holding most of the search pie. Moreover, if it were the spotlight that is bringing Yahoo growth, how long would it last?
Google would soon be launching its new search engine, codenamed Caffeine. The spotlight would definitely move and we would expect the landscape to change once again. There never seem to be a day when the search world rests and that’s exciting for us.
