Penn Olson’s Weekly Highlights!

SpotlightsThis week we showed you how to conduct a solid PowerPoint presentation and how to present like Steve Jobs. We also shared reasons why social media is able to help your business and recommended social media best practices for you to apply into your business.

To keep you in the loop, we compiled a series of battles Google is fighting against 4 major companies. Just in case you missed important content, here is the highlighted news of the week!

1. Buy G.M. Cars on eBay:

Going to brick and mortar car showrooms is so last year. From car park lots to laptops, buy your next G.M. car on eBay.

2. Facebook acquires FriendFeed:

The biggest news of the week! Through this acquisition, Facebook got what it always wanted: A talented team of ex Google engineers and real-time search technology.

3. R.I.P Eunice Kennedy Shriver:

This week we lost a very respected woman who fought for the disabled and founded the Special Olympics. Her legacy shall remain and inspire generations to come.

4. Facebook Search now Real Time:

Expectedly, Facebook launched its real-time search shortly after the FriendFeed acquisition announcement. Moreover, Bing powers it. Wonder how Google feels about that.

5. Google’s Next Generation Web Search Caffeine:

Real-time search is probably the hottest thing right now. Google has been working on its project codenamed Caffeine. It is said to revolutionize search and we can anticipate a whole new search engine.

6. Facebook Lite Direct Competition to Twitter?:

Facebook would be launching Facebook Lite, a lighter and faster version of Facebook. With weaker presence in Asia and a huge potential to go otherwise, Facebook Lite might be the answer for users from areas with slow connection speed.

7. Facebook Chases Google and Yahoo. Twitter Left Behind:

It is a game of who’s got the most users. With Facebook threatening Google with its real-time cum social search powered by Bing, and now its traffic growth, things are getting interesting.

8. Project Retweet:

A big part of how Twitter works is shaped by its users: @replies, #FollowFriday and retweets. Retweeting is a common practice on Twitter but has not been supported in a major way. With this new project, retweeting is entering a whole new level. Will users be able to get used to it?

9. Google Lost Search Share to Yahoo:

The Yahoo-Bing deal was intended to take search share away from Google. Yahoo’s new homepage also created enough buzz to bring the spotlight on it. Even so, its July search growth was unexpected. Will this trend last? Should Google be worried?
