Phil Ryan from Broadgreen International School in Liverpool was always a strict teacher in his Year 11 students’ mind.
Naturally, it really took them by surprise when he decided to “perform” a hilarious chicken dance in front of them as an end-of-term-treat.
The mockery came when one of his students took a video of this scene and uploaded it on YouTube. Whether it’s with the intention to embarrass the teacher, we are not too sure.
But I am pretty sure he won’t be performing again anytime soon. Since then, the video has accumulated more than 5,000 views.
A Warning to All Teachers?
John Bangs, National Union of Teachers head of education, expressed that it was “a tragedy” as teachers are not able to loosen up and just have fun with their students without possibly getting captured on video and mocked at by thousands of people worldwide.
“Something like this can really undermine a good teacher, but the only way round it is not to expose yourself in the first place. There are downsides to living in an IT-literate age”.
Ian Andain, head teacher at Broadgreen and chairman of Liverpool Schools Forum also commented
“Technology has completely changed the way in which people need to present themselves, and make sure they aren’t vulnerable to humiliation.
Something like this was funny enough at the time, but once it is on a website you can end up with all sorts of malicious comments, and the whole situation escalates.”
