Watching TV alone can be boring!
Wouldn’t it be great if you have a TV remote control that allows you to share what you’re currently watching? IBM owns that technology, which is waiting to be patented.
This remote control, designed by IBM scientists, allows you to “autoblog” on social sites such as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace about whatever you are tuning into at any point of time.
According to the patent abstract , this new technology allows us to post a snapshot of the show we are watching, as well as text about it.
“I don’t know of any specific plans at this time to put this into an IBM product,” said the spokesman. “I think the bigger possibility would be that it would be licensed by another company.”
The IBM spokesman also said that the new remote control technology has not been named and it’s not clear how soon it can reach the market just yet.
TV Going Social
We are going social on web content, news, mobile phones and now television. What could possibly go social next?
Also, what new industries would result from this new technology? I would not be surprised if new social networking sites pop out to leverage on this new technology, encouraging people to spend more time on TV content.
