Co-Founder Biz Stone: Twitter Will Have No Ads This Year

biz-stoneAccording to Reuters, Twitter currently has no plans to monetize its traffic with advertisements this year.

Biz Stone claimed that Twitter is doing pretty good right now and is currently focused on features and paid commercial accounts for 2009.

“Any kind of approach toward advertising is going to be awhile… We’re not thinking about that just yet,” Stone said at the 140: Twitter Conference in Los Angeles.

Biz Stone remained tight-lipped when questioned about Twitter’s valuation and venture funding. There isn’t any confirmation to Twitter’s ambitious $1 billion valuation thus far.

I guess Twitter is trying to assess the playing field for a while before launching an advertising campaign that will propel the social media site's prominence even further. I think that unless they could come up with something more amazing than Facebook, which will be soon initiating an ad campaign as well, there is a possibility that they can come close to Facebook's user numbers.

It looks tough for me to think that Twitter will end up monetizing the huge amount of traffic just via advertising. It's so shortsigthed and I believe Biz Stone knows this.
Is more interesting for them to explore what they can do their their flourishing ecosystem, than simple add advertising that it would require to be very personalized and targeted for creating any interests on brands/
