3 Things We Like About Apple.com

Apple_black_logoApple.com might not be the top website in the online world; but it is definitely one of the best in the online retail category.

Many of us who have gotten things from Apple.com would probably agree to that. But do we really know why we feel so good and so tempted to get the latest technology when we are on its website?

I will share three reasons today, which might seem obvious on hindsight but we are often unconscious of.

1. Easy Navigation

Navigation is intuitive on the site. There are only 7 main tabs (including home) that cover what most visitors would look for. When you click on a main tab, the nitty gritty stuff sub tabs would appear on the sidebar, making it look uncluttered and yet easy to access.

Knowing that some people might find it hard to browse the entire product range at a go, Apple came up with a fun slider to make shopping so much easier.

2. The Support

Apple has abundant videos on its site, where each product is accompanied by a video introduction. For first time mac users, there are numerous guides and manuals for them to download and consult.

You hardly need external sources to help you with an Apple problem.

3. The Experience

Just like how we enjoy roaming around an Apple Store, it is fun to browse the website. Its gorgeous pictures, hilarious commercials and hot news (for Apple fans) all contributed to making the whole experience great.

Also, its download section allows visitors to take something “home”. It is so convenient to download something straight from Apple.com that it could almost become our online habit.

Back to Business

Apple has a big budget and a specialized team to manage its website. The experience Apple created did not come overnight and probably took many trials and errors. That’s exactly why we should learn from its example and extract the tried and tested Apple essence when planning a retail site.

Accessibility, clarity and experience are probably 3 words that would sum it all up.

I was considering getting a Apple when I was looking for a new computer last month, but I just couldn't justify spending more twice the money to get the same stats.
