14 Brilliant Minimalist Ads

faceabookIt’s not difficult to love minimalist ads, but to create one requires a brilliant idea. Most successful minimalist ads depend a lot on iconic brands, items, places and people.

Just an image (or traces) of it would trigger a whole chain of associations and no more than that is enough to grab the attention of consumers. What advertisers need to do is to capture that one image without overdoing it.

Now, that’s the difficult part isn’t it?

I love minimalist artwork/ads as long as the message is understandable right away – which is pretty much the case for all these ads.

My favourite would have to be the lego tank ;)

  • http://www.nowhere.com/ Ozaru

All good, but none quite match the Silk Cut ones in the UK, 1970s — they didn't even show the company name, logo or catchphrase, just images that made one (eventually) think of silken things and cutting… ultra-artistic, possibly too cerebral for some, but worth sticking on a wall even now.

  • http://www.newsly.it/ Nina

That's great!! I love these minimal Ads, especially the Faber Castell one.

  • fizafiza

hiii..do you think it's a good approach if i use the minimalist concept for Public Awareness Campaign for Diabetes?

    why not? :)

  • http://www.ComputerTutorFlorida.com/ Scott Johnson

Great ads. Never really understood the fascination with Legos though.

  • http://manishahujas.blogspot.com/ Manish Ahuja

Really well thought and well designed ads. Liked them all :)

  • jayturn

Funny how the minimalist ads are the ones that say the most. The “Children of offenders” campaign really nailed the message. Seeing this does enforce the message for all designers, less is more. Great work collecting these for your article.

  • Christina

These are some of the nicest ads I've seen in a while…simplicity really is the ultimate sophistication! I'm actually working to a similar brief at the moment :)

  • http://www.zagoumenov.com/ Alexander Zagoumenov

Love your collection! Thanks for putting it together!

  • http://www.onepowerfulword.com Ash Srivastava

Creative Indeed. I like the lego with the flying plane image

  • Ciaran

love the google ad, very cool. Also have really enjoyed teh economist ads over the last few years, one in particular: I never read the economist” Managemnet trainee age 42,

    gotta love it

  • http://www.tsheets.com Time Tracking

Great collection! I particularly like the McDonalds 24/7 drivethru. Taking the brands' iconic image and reflecting it through headlights – simply brilliant.

Likewise – although they don't even need to advertise, the Google “Find More Easily” is genius! Any idea on the creative firms behind these campaigns?

  • Vagary Enterprises

Thanks for pulling all this ads together. They truly represent the best our industry has to offer.

  • Anonimo

What do you mean?, is the first time I see them and they were my favorite. We grown ups just see blocks, but the shadows suggest we can do or did more with simple blocks.

  • Anonimo

Interesting, how about trying to portrait something Non-Diabetes People can’t see about DiabetesPeople?
For example, a cupcake of stone?, by showing they can’t enjoy little life details as the average people.

    Less is more. Brilliant ads!

  • Tabea

Sorry, but that Lego tank is just the sort of thing you don’t want your six-year-old to imagine. Good idea, bad execution. Go fight wars, guys, don’t make ads.

  • http://qualitypoint.blogspot.com/ Rajamanickam

Really brilliant Ads.  But I won’t encourage selling the products using brilliant ads instead of delivering Quality products cost effectively.

OMG these are fantastic illustrations. I particulary enjoy fitVIBE. Genius!

  • Kim Heron

These are great visuals.  Effective ads are always simple.  Reminds me of an ad I once saw for Guiness beer more than 20 years ago and I’ve never forgotten it, “The taste of Guiness…hard to believe, easy to swallow”.

  • Divaker

Lego Ad was superb! Time To/For Change Lego

Minimalist ads are so hard to create. The WiFi ad for McDonalds takes it.

It’s interesting that with the simplicity of the imagery the contrasting elements have so much more impact. The lego ads remind me of the Star Wars Episode One poster of the young Anikan Skywalker casting a shadow in the form of Darth Vader.
