Inc. 500: Group Of Social Media Savvy Marketers

inc500A research on Inc. 500 has revealed that 91% of Inc. 500 firms are using at least one social media tool in 2009, and about 75% declared that they are “very familiar” with social networking.

Comparing to the research done by Citibank back in October, which revealed that 75% of small businesses don’t find social media useful, the Inc. 500 group of companies can be considered as a social media savvy lot.

The statistics below will show you why.

social media used by US companies 07-09

Most online media tools, particularly social networking have in recent years been increasingly utilized. Though blogging is picking up, it has yet to cross the 50% mark. Could it be that the value of a corporate blog is undermined? Or is it not worth the effort to blog good content? Many companies would rather stick to tools like Facebook and Twitter, where information is disseminated in bite-sizes.

Anyhow, it is apparent that the social media wave is not dying off any time soon, and Inc. 500 companies are definitely making full use of these tools.

IntegraClick

I was exploring inc.com and stumbled upon IntegraClick, one of the Inc.500 companies. It has an awesome blog with a high dosage of social media activities. Its blog provides great and regularly updated content.

It also engages in social sites like Twitter and Facebook, and makes the extra effort to identify its fan of the week.

It seems  like the people behind IntegraClick’s website, ClickBooth has done a great job. A role model for many to learn from. Kudos :)

Interesting to see video and more specifically podcasts dying off so suddenly.

It may be the case that text is much easier to produce than a podcast and video – but is it as effective?

hmm. In my opinion, a video is hard to create. And something that is badly done will definitely see a lot of negative remarks on YouTube.

Anyways, nice site at beginnerBlogger.com Sarge. Thumbs up! :)

Very true – however I believe a great video is much more powerful than great text. I believe video can invoke more powerful emotions in people and emotions generally lead to actions – like buying products for example.

indeed. I guess most of us prefer videos than text. It's fun and easy to consume information. We pay attention to them and perhaps that is why emotions are easily invoked.

    Hey Willis,

Thanks for the kind words. :-) I think a lot of companies are still trying to figure out the value behind Social Media and how it fits in to their overall business goals, before they hire someone to guide them into the space. Not only that, but social media also takes a company's overall message out of THEIR hands and gives the power back to the consumer/client (which is scary to a lot of businesses!). With that said, the transition can sometime take a LONG time before the C level executives/owners feel comfortable with it.

For us, Social Media has allowed us to not only expand our reach and connect with our clients on a more personal level, but it has also given us a platform to share our knowledge and expertise to those that are looking to learn more about our industry and company.

That being said, for us as a company, it's definitely been worth it! :-)
