Wendy McNaughton was surfing around walmart.com when she came across a 2010 “All About the Boys” calendar. And I am guessing she wasn’t too impressed by Walmart’s offer.
McNaughton informed a local news site, from which the news caught on fire.
“I found a calendar that looks like kiddie porn for sale,” McNaughton said. “Why would Walmart, a company that’s supposed to have values, be selling kiddie porn on a Web site?”
The calendar was removed from the website less than three hours after CBS 5 News contacted the retail giant.
“Due to an error, this product was displayed on our site,” the company said in a statement. “We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused our customers.”
Reminder: It just doesn’t suit the image
LOL. So the calender just managed to find its way on the site by accident? This sure reminds me of Burger King’s distasteful sexy babe bathing campaign.
While it is highly unlikely that Walmart would be hurt by this little blooper, it does serve as a small warning to all businesses.
If it does not sit well with your brand image, don’t do it. That includes all 4Ps – product, price, promotion and place. Make sure they all work towards building your brand, not diluting it.
