5 Bizarre Facebook Stories

facebook_logoEveryone loves Facebook, except for those who got their marriage and career jeopardized by it.

For being the social networking site that has accompanied us through thick and thin, it definitely deserves the great year it enjoyed – 350 million users, $1 billion revenue, $9.5 billion worth and steady traffic growth.

It also has its fair share of media attention, thanks to its users and their stories.

Here are 5 bizarre ones that deserve a second look.

1. The Awesome Facebook Burglar

Jonathan G. Parker, 19 was one burglar who could multi-task.

After breaking into a Martinsburg, West Virginia house and stealing 2 diamonds rings worth more than $3500, he had enough time to use the victim’s computer to Google “best escape routes”.

If that’s not enough, he also logged into his Facebook profile and updated his Facebook status that read,

“OMG LOLZ brkin into sum1s house!”…(more)

2. Facebook Alibi

According to New York Times, Rodney Bradford, a 19 year old teenager was arrested for robbery. The twist is, he had an alibi.

Rodney typed in a message at the time the crime was committed on his Facebook page, from a computer in his father’s apartment in Harlem… (more)

3. The Facebook Wedding Planner

Kyle Dias, 21, wanted to marry fiancée Nikki Gallagher, 22, before the plan was thwarted by his imprisonment for robbery earlier this year.

Somehow, he managed to smuggle a mobile phone with wireless connection into HMP Rochester, Kent with free access to Facebook.

And that was how he got the rest of his wedding preparations done… (more)

4. Facebook Saves Boy

facebook_clickA 16 year old British teenager posted the following status update on his Facebook profile: “I’m going away to do something I’ve been thinking about for a while then everybody will find out.”

Would that occur to you as a pre-suicide statement?

Well, it did for a girl who had spotted the update and informed her mum about it. Very quickly, her mum alerted the police in Maryland, US and the news was then passed on to a White House Special Agent who later contacted the British Embassy in Washington DC.

The message finally reached the Metropolitan Police, who managed to detect the teenager’s house. A total of 5 different authorities were involved… (more)

5. Escaped Prisoner Teases Police Via Facebook

What is it like to tell the world about your life as a fugitive? Craig Lynch, 28, escaped Hollesley Bay prison back in September to find out.

Ever since breaking out of prison, he has been updating his Facebook status regularly; hinting his whereabouts and telling friends what he is up to.

“mmm i just had a 12lb venison steak. Roasted veg and chips, bangin meal. I feel stuffed but still got room for the j.d’s . Hope you enjoyed the meal babe’s. We’ll have to eat here again,” Lynch wrote on his wall… (more)

Technology is changing criminal investigations. Just as the Facebook update exonerated the teen (Rodney Bradford), email metadata contributed the same week to the acquittal of two Bear Stearns hedge fund managers who were accused of fraud. http://legal-beagle.typepad.com/wrights_legal_b… -Ben
