Nobody Likes Google Buzz?

Connect with us via Google Buzz here :)

google buzzWithin 24 hours of the launch of Google Buzz, Microsoft and Yahoo both gave Google a slap on the face. Here’s Microsoft’s blatant statement in response to this service.

“Busy people don’t want another social network, what they want is the convenience of aggregation. We’ve done that. Hotmail customers have benefited from Microsoft working with Flickr, Facebook, Twitter and 75 other partners since 2008.”

Yahoo did it through a tweet stating that the idea was implemented two years ago. Too little too late? Nonetheless, the big Google reputation surely gives users some sort of confidence.

Will it actually work? It depends on the possible future upgrades that Google Buzz could provide. At its current state, I don’t see it as an innovation. It simply doesn’t provide additional value. For most, I believe Twitter or even FriendFeed is preferred over Google Buzz.

Google is a company that struggles with social network; the failure of Orkut is a good example. But on a fair note, Blogger and YouTube are both doing fairly well, despite the absence of revenue stream. It’s unfair to write off Google Buzz just a day after its launch. Be patient and hope Google would work its magic.

Or perhaps we’re getting impatient towards new social sites that require us to build our network from scratch.

Who said Orkut is a failure? Facebook is not popular in INDIA and they dont like it…but they love orkut…popularity in US alone does not mean success of failure…think about global…

hey Babu. Orkut has a declining traffic growth. but you're right to say that it is still popular in India. It depends on how we define success. thanks anyway :)

Google has a huge brand equity behind it. Yes, maybe MS or Yahoo must have had a similar product since a long time. However, more or less, I think it is an addition to the social media itself. The point however in question, is whether the users really perceive any difference in the features or value-adds to Google Buzz, or whether Google Buzz has a different USP to attract users, other than the regular social media features. If there's something groundbreaking within the product, I am sure it will succeed. Time will tell.

As of now, there doesn't seem to be much 'buzz' about Buzz. Yes, it is a trending topic everywhere on the social media scene, but one really cannot say as of now that it is THERE! Also, I hope Google hasn't released this feature like most of their other features. If you remember, Google Mail, Orkut and most recently Google Wave, was by invitation only. (I still do not see the Buzz option in my Gmail Inbox, as the demo video from Google says) “By Invitation Only” is a factor of Exclusivity, and it may not work always. It worked for a while as long as the concept of exclusivity was new itself! Nowadays, since there is a whole wide range of social media options available to users, I don't think so google's 'exclusivity' tactic would work here.

I for one love it because it offers me the ability to geotag places I like around the city and view other people's opinions about what's going on.

And I am in Bucharest, which was one of the towns that participated most heavily in the Google Cartographer project and mapped out nation's capital which previously only had a couple of main roads.

This is a great thing if used by a lot of people and I can really see this becoming a great tool to meet new people in your town. Or anywhere for that matter.

Isn't that called tipping points? 2 years ago, Twitter was nowhere and Facebook didn't have the impact it has today. Being too early can cost a lot of money. Let's wait and see where Google takes the Buzz.

I like Google Buzz. If they provide a way for users to take more control of Buzz (like FF), then more people would adopt it.

i don't understand why Google wants to be successful in every context.. i tested Buzz, and i couldn't find something new.. the idea to be followed “everywhere” by the same people begin to be annoying..
