Apple App Store Faces Giants

iphoneMore than 3 billion downloads in just 18 months. Apple‘s App Store has been a resounding success, which has also caught rivals’ attention.

Times reported that Orange, Telefonica, AT&T and 9 others mobile networks are banding together to build an open technology platform designed to deliver applications to all mobile-phone users. The alliance has more than 2 billions users, which is certainly a disturbing figure for Apple.

The current app stores are segregated based on the mobile operating system, where incompatibility issue has troubled both developers and consumers. The alliance is believed to solve all that.

How would this single mobile platform technology evolve? And how would Apple react?

We’re witnessing an exciting episode of the mobile trend. And there are surely windows of opportunities for businesses to jump if this alliance works.

I don;t think it will hurt Apple to much at all. Apple has such a loyal following that I doubt they will lose much in sales.

agree and disagree. i think it depends on the number of mobile makers and mobile networks working together and also the quality of the new app store.
