Top 15 Things Marketers Find Most Important Currently

important-stamp-thumb8027399What is most important to marketers? According to the Marketing Trends Report 2010 from Anderson Analytics and the Marketing Executives Networking Group (MENG), marketing ROI is currently the most important.

This highlights the fact that marketing is not entirely an art but also a science. Other top priorities of marketers include customer retention, brand loyalty and company positioning.

Social media, too is part of the list, ranking at 8th position while social media ROI is the most important to 36% of marketers surveyed. I guess we can expect an increase of professionals measuring social media ROI from the 16% we saw last year.

Top 15 List

15 Needs and Wants of US marketers

Social media might be a buzzword but we all know that having too much of the same thing is dull. Social media was considered the most annoying, with nearly 30% of executives tired of it. Twitter, came in second, irking nearly 15% of respondents, and social networking came in third.

It seems very much like a love-hate relationship we have here. At a time like this, social media is definitely as important, if not more important to marketers as other types of media. However, it might have become an overused term, especially with gurus offering nothing but fluff to the table. Social media is not the silver bullet most people make it up to be.

On the contrary, social media requires more substance, time and planning than most other platforms. We need to look at the big picture and see how social media fit into your business strategies.

Great post, thanks. I notice that at the Anderson Analytics site they only have the 2009 report, not the 2010 report. Is there access to more of this report available? Thanks,
