Employees Visit Facebook 7 Out Of 100 Times At Work

facebookLast year, we found that 54% of companies prohibited social media at work, but that did not stop them from watching employees‘ every move through the very same media. Companies are mostly worried about the use of social media affecting employees’ work productivity and company security.

Network Box reported that 7 out of 100 URLs accessed by businesses were directed to Facebook and 10% of Internet bandwidth went to YouTube.

According to the SC Magazine UK, Simon Heron, internet security analyst for Network Box, said: “The figures show that IT managers are right to be concerned about the amount of social network use at work. There are two real concerns here: firstly that employees will be downloading applications from social networks and putting security at risk; and secondly the amount of corporate bandwidth that appears to be being used for non-corporate activity.”

Is this really a call for concern? Not if you have proper regulations. Instead of prohibiting social media use, trust employees and encourage them to be ambassadors of your company through their own social profiles.

I agree with having your employees being good ambassadors for your company through their different social media networks, BUT at what point should they be paid to do this at work? I think that people waste so much time at work surfing the internet, writing personal e-mails, and doing personal work etc. I can't believe that employers are OK with this and think it is an efficient way for their employees to do their work. I wonder how much work people would get done if they stayed focussed during their day. Also, wouldn't they be able to get home sooner if they weren't spending so much time not doing their work?
