Social media could either be a great channel for building brand engagement or one that hinders workers’ productivity.
We have previously written that workers who use Twitter and other social networking sites at work could cost businesses £1.38bn every year. That is equivalent to $2 billion in USD or a hefty $5.5 million per day, if divided by 365.
The potential loss that social media could bring is destructive and companies are certainly doing something about it.
Setting up a company social media policy could be solution to ensure any usage are purely for work purpose. Alternatively, companies could simply ban social media in the workplace. According to a survey conducted by security solutions provider nCircle, 4 out of 10 companies took the alternative solution.

Surely, one would argue that social media could be beneficial for the employees and business if proper guidelines were put up. To counter that, it is always hard to control addictions isn’t it? That’s why drug rehabilitation centers are needed.
There isn’t an absolute answer to this problem. But we do have an imperfect “solution” to tackle this issue.
