Want to find a job so badly but don’t have any idea how to get started?
Maybe Google AdWords can help! Alec Brownstein has shown how Google AdWords and a mere $6 can help you land a dream job.
Last summer, Alec had a desire to make a change in his career. He wished to work at “a really creative shop for really creative [creative directors].” So, he took the first step by Googling his favorite creative directors, and realized that there aren’t any search ads on the results page. He assumed that the creative directors, like him, would Google their own names and he decided to create and buy ads with their names as keywords.
Since there isn’t any competitor fighting for the ad spots, the ads are really affordable at 15 cents per click for top placement.
“Everybody Googles themselves,” Brownstein explained. “Even if they don’t admit it. I wanted to invade that secret, egotistical moment when [the creative directors I admired] were most vulnerable.”

Alec’s creative approach has won him awards under the self-promotion category – The One Show and The Clios
When Mashable asked for advice on how to land a dream job via Internet marketing, Alec commented:
“Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there in an interesting way,” he said. “The people who you want to work for can’t hire you any less than they already are. So shoot for the moon.”
We have recently seen 7 creative digital advertising examples, and Alec’s awesome self promotion campaign certainly fits the list. Judging by the simplicity and effectiveness of this campaign, I’m pretty sure we would see others adopting a similar job hunting approach in the near future.
