Search Engines And Reputation

google your nameIf you have googled yourself recently, you’re not alone.

A recent study by Pew Internet has revealed that more than half of the Americans search their own names to monitor what are being said about them.

Information becomes so much more transparent with search engines. And that includes your personal information. What you have done in the virtual and reality world could be easily found just by entering your name in the search query.

It also means that potential employers or the person who you’re currently dating could easily verify your past records within split seconds. This research highlights the importance of building good online and offline reputation as majority were found searching information about others. Each link surfaced from the results page tells a story about you. Whether it’s online or offline, we can’t control what others say about us. We can only influence them through positive actions.

(We have included Flowtown‘s infographic which highlights the key pointers found in this research.)
