How Social Media Is Changing Business [INFOGRAPHIC]

individualsThe social media wave is on. Businesses, which successfully adopted social media, have changed the way they approach consumers. Or rather, it would be more precise to say that businesses have conformed to the “rules” imposed by the Internet communities.

The infographic below highlights 4 changes that social media has brought upon. They are key points that greenhorn social media users would need to take note:

(1) Greater emphasis is place on connecting than selling, (2) companies have also paid more attention to individual consumer, (3) communication is now more transparent, and (4) social media stretches a business’s presence wider and easier for consumers to reach.

    Great graphic!

Regarding 3), communication is not necessarily more transparent because of social media. Social media has changed business communication. However, that change, for businesses that get it, is really about listening and influencing. Therefore, for 3), one perspective for the new scenario on the right might have the three green figures also “broadcasting” with bi-directional arrows between them. This change could also be carried to 1) to show bi-directional arrows between the three green figures.

Hi Penn, nice to meet you – I like it! Some other changes come to mind that would fit within a category, “from one department (eg marketing) to all – a cross functional process”. It involves Customer Support, Sales, Product Development, Human Talent, Public Relations, President/CEO and Marketing etc. All have aspects of social involvement but of course driven by a communicated vision and social leadership team. Also we now see changes in seeing our workers not as resources but for who they are as people with talent (Human Resources = NEW Human Talent). We are involving the insight and ideas of key customers and who become drivers in our engagement process. Thanks for the infographic! http://xeesm.com/JenniferSalisbury/

you're right! but i guess companies on social media tend to be more transparent on stuff that involves the consumer because any fabricated information would likely to cause a wildfire of bad buzz.
