Pepsi Bottles Will Go Naked If Argentina Wins World Cup

promesa-pepsiArgentina’s coach, Diego Maradona has made a wacky promise that he will run around naked in Beunos Aires if Argentina were to win the World Cup.

To Pepsi, this is more than just a hilarious promise, which the cola giant has smartly jumped on this opportunity to set up another ambush marketing tactic for this year’s World Cup.

Here’s the deal. If Argentina wins the tournament, Pepsi will strip off all labels on its bottle for a week in the soccer fanatic country.

Advertising efforts to hype up this fun and creative idea are already underway.

To illustrate what that would look like, Pepsi is running print ads this week from BBDO Argentina showing a Pepsi-shaped plastic bottle of dark liquid dressed in nothing but a blue label fastened to the neck of the bottle reading, “If the coach goes naked, we will, too. Pepsi promises.”

Brilliant!

We like the idea. It’s fun, creative and resonated extremely well with soccer fans throughout the country. As the tournament reaches its climax, Pepsi’s association with the World Cup strengthens, even though it isn’t the official sponsor.

If Argentina wins, Pepsi and Maradona are ready to perform their “strip show”. Will you be looking forward to it?

I truly believe this was a perfect Ad campaing that took advantage of Maradona's speech. Pepsi saw an opportunity there and transformed it in such as huge hit in Argentine. It was also a recognition of Pepsi to the idol “Maradona”.
