The History of E-Commerce [INFOGRAPHIC]

e-commerceEver wonder how e-commerce started and has evolved to its state today? This infographic by ZippyCart will help you answer your queries.

Back in 1971, Michael Aldrich invented the world’s first online shopping platform. Unfortunately, it didn’t take off and other contributors like Thomson Holidays and France Telecom continued to improve the e-commerce platform.

It was only after 13 years (1984) that the e-commerce had its first customer, by the name of Jane Snowball.

The e-commerce industry continued to improve and enjoyed a leap of success in 1994. Big brands like Pizza Hut recorded its first sale via the Internet. It was also in the similar year that the first online bank opened.

The e-commerce industry continues to develop and innovate up to today. Companies like eBay and Groupon strive, as buying via the Internet is now becoming a common purchasing channel. Looking forward, mobile commerce seems to be the next trend, as smartphones slowly becomes part of everyone’s need.
