HOW TO: Use Your Smartphone To Build Your Personal Brand

smartphonesThe smartphone is rapidly accelerating the convergence of computing and telephony and taking the phone as a converged music player, gaming device, camera, GPS navigator, web browser and wallet to another level.

On top of that, as a person of influence, a taste-maker or even a Web celebrity, it has never been as easy as it is today. Here are 2 simple ways to get you to create your personal brand right from your smartphone.

Life Casting

This is probably the easiest way to start building your personal brand online; through sharing pictures, videos and other content with your followers. Utilizing sites like WordPress, Blogspot, Posterous and Tumblr, you are able to post pictures and videos directly from your phone to a singular blog where your followers can keep up-to-date on what you are up to.

On top of that, these sites allow you to add text captions to your uploaded pictures and videos so as to add a more personal touch to it. They can be short or long in explanation if you wish to convey a deeper message to your followers.

The great thing with smartphones is the mobility factor. When you are out on an adventure and you chance upon something interesting, all it takes is a simple snap of the camera of a few seconds of video recording to keep people updated of what you are up to.

Live Streaming Video

This next method would not sit too well with the camera-shy but there are ways to overcome it. Live streaming sites like Ustream and Justin.tv are fantastic to build your personal brand through video streaming. Instead of still pictures, you are putting yourself into the conversation that matter and giving your input on hot topics of the day.

As a result, you gain face recognition and Web credibility from the people in your community. If you’re on iPhone, you can always download the Ustream app from the iTunes store. Exploring further into the app allows you to upload your stream to sites like Facebook, YouTube and Twitter which allows you to notify your followers that you are doing a live telecast.

Summary

The key to becoming a more influential person online is your active followers. In order to get them and keep them coming back to your site, you need to be more open to them for a start and also be consistent with your postings. A big plus point would be collaboration with other influential people in your community because they can help you expose yourself to their audience and at the same time grow your audience.
