Wonder how different age groups fare in terms of their social networking growth rate in recent years? A Pew Internet & American Life Project survey shed some light.
From April 2009 to May 2010, the proportion of social networking users in the 65+ age range doubled. Age 50 to 64 also experienced strong growth. As social media captures the attention of business people, whom majority of the experience ones usually fall in the age 50 or above category, usage has expectedly risen.
Among the many existing sites, Facebook and LinkedIn are identified to receive favorable response from the senior group. As both sites user base increases, it made other social sites seem irrelevant, slowly becoming the world’s de facto online social platforms – both for work and social reasons.

It only makes matter worst for others when Facebook has an upcoming movie, which will spread its name even wider.
