China’s online space is home to over 500 million netizens, homegrown social networks and a thriving e-commerce market. While companies similar to eBay, Amazon, and Groupon exist, e-commerce has emerged as an unlikely channel for some of the world’s most prestigious luxury companies like Coach, Armani and LVMH. In fact, the increase in China’s online luxury market is dramatic. According to internet research company iResearch , the transaction volume of China’s online luxury shopping market reached an unprecedented 10.73 billion yuan in 2011, a 68.8 percent increase from 6.36 billion ...

GudangVoucher Tackles Indonesia’s Online Payment Problems, Southeast Asia Next

byJoshua KevininAsia, Business, E-commerce, Web
Payment, Payment, Payment. That seems to be the biggest problem needing to be solved in the Indonesian e-commerce ecosystem right now. Previously we have looked at efforts by Indomog, Inapay, and UNIK, plus there’s Kaskus with its Kaspay. Now we have GudangVoucher as well. The company has been doing this kind of stuff for years; not to mention they are the only payment solution working with Facebook in Indonesia for its Facebook Credits, and one of the few merchants that is working with BCA, the country’s biggest private bank. Rather like Indomog, ...
One Day After Deadline, Tuanbao’s New Services Still Missing

byC. CusterinE-commerce, Social Media
Tuanbao, the group buy clone that snagged the Groupon.cn domain before Groupon could, is in trouble. That much has been clear for a while. But, like many group buy sites looking to change things up as it became clear succeeding with the group buy model wasn't as easy as originally thought, Tuanbao said it planned to offer new services. In fact, it even plastered a big red banner across the top of its website announcing the new service would be arriving on February 20th. That was yesterday. The new service? ...

It’s a smart bit of social marketing, allowing Weibo users to get travel suggestions right from their Weibo app of choice, with no need to even search for info. The Ctrip robot - this is its page - will reply to queries with an answer in a flash, in the form of a Weibo message containing one ...
Rumor: China’s Massive Wanda Group to Enter E-commerce

The Wanda Group is basically ubiquitous in China. The mega-company, which is itself a subsidiary of the China National United Oil Corporation, has its hands in everything from commercial real estate to cultural industries, chain stores, and hotels. Now, it appears the company may be planning to get into e-commerce. Specifically, the rumor started last Friday, when an industry insider reportedly tweeted: Wanda is getting into e-commerce, headhunters are already searching for employees. Wanda has yet to confirm the news, but they haven't yet denied it, either. One Wanda rep told a ...
Walmart Ups Its Investment in China’s Yihaodian, Seeks a Majority Stake

bySteven MillwardinAsia, Business, E-commerce, Web
American retail giant Walmart (NYSE:WMT) has taken a majority stake in the Chinese e-commerce site Yihaodian, it has been confirmed today. It means the US firm has increased its stake in the site since its initial investment last summer. But Wal-Mart’s 51 percent ownership is still pending local regulatory approval. Yihaodian, much like Walmart itself, sells everyday items such as foodstuffs and toiletries, but it has also begun to diversify into clothing and consumer electronics recently, treading on the toes of B2C e-commerce market leaders 360Buy (in which Walmart has a ...

Seeing goods or service which they want, users can create and promote their own deals, turning a local business’s customers into its biggest advocates. It will be interesting to see if it’s successful. According to Handsup, it takes just three steps for consumers to request a deal: Find an item that you’d like to buy. Tiket Hits the Right Notes in its Ticket Buying Experience [REVIEW]
byJoshua KevininAsia, E-commerce, Startups, Web
Tiket, as its name implies, is a ticket booking platform for almost anything. It was soft launched back in November of last year, and has been running full steam ahead since the end of December. With hotels as its first offering, Tiket soon followed it up with movie tickets, becoming the first ticketing site to cooperate with Blitz Megaplex. Then came events, such as concerts, football matches, and even smaller local happenings. Plane tickets are in the offing. So far Tiket.com has handled more than a few huge events and has ...
CandyJapan Sends Sweets with Simple Subscription Model

byRick MartininCreative, E-commerce, Startups
Subscription models are cool. Provide a service to your customers, who in return pay a recurring fee. That’s the idea behind CandyJapan.com, a service that sends you (surprise, surprise) candy from Japan . It was created by Bemmu Sepponen, a Finnish national living in Japan, and he operates it part time. And there are so many reasons why I love this idea that I’m not really sure where to start. Japanese candy can be very unusual, and strangely, people all over the world are interested to buy it – whether it’s ...
