Indonesian School Launches Social Network, Names It Fishbook

The Institute Pertanian Bogor (IPB), a school based in Indonesia has launched Fishbook, a social network for students from the department of Marine Fisheries Technology. While student networks and forums are common, Fishbook took an interesting approach by implementing a design similar to Facebook’s. Very similar. It has the same familiar Facebook login page only with the world map replaced by an Indonesian map. To dig a little deeper, I registered and logged on to Fishbook. Unfortunately the network looks pretty empty with little activity. From time to time I saw ...

Since then, I have been an avid reader and viewer of his blog and interviews on YouTube. I also chanced upon him at GMIC in Beijing where we had a short discussion about mobile usage in Asia and ...

Facebook Page Protests File Sharing Website Ban in Malaysia

Facebook Page Protests File Sharing Website Ban in Malaysia

Thanks to Facebook, a throng of over 8000 Malaysians can gather online and let their voices be heard. This particular meeting was triggered by the recent file sharing website ban imposed by SKKM, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission. TorrentFreak reported that a memo was sent to Internet Service Providers to ban ten file sharing websites, including Pirate Bay and Megaupload. The decision was made to reduce pornographic content and most likely also to battle against piracy content on the Internet. But to many Malaysians (especially to those who ‘like’ the Facebook page) ...

Youth’s House Raided After Facebook Post on Eating Indian Bullfrog

It’s a Friday and all of us are yearning for that big feast in a nice restaurant or at home with our family. A youth from India had the same aspiration but was a little more particular with his choice of food. He picked Indian bullfrogs, a protected species according to wildlife protection rules in India. The Indian bullfrogs were slaughtered, cooked, and eaten. It was all okay until he proudly shared his “bullfrog feast” experience on Facebook. That got him into trouble as someone from Wild Goa Network, a wildlife activist ...

Facebook Hits the Street to Promote a New Service in Japan

Facebook Hits the Street to Promote a New Service in Japan

This afternoon there was quite a bit of buzz in the Japan Twitterverse about a mysterious Facebook display that was being erected in Tokyo’s Shibuya shopping district. Facebook has been trying to crack the Japanese market over the past few months, and seeing their reps ‘take the fight to the streets’ (so to speak) is interesting to see. Here’s how this afternoon played out. Ironically most of this discussion comes via Twitter, which is already doing quite well in Japan.

Facebook Grocery Shopping With Farm2Kitchen

Facebook Grocery Shopping With Farm2Kitchen

Farm2Kitchen is India's first Facebook social shopping that has redefined the shopping experience for Indian women. For obvious reasons, Farm2Kitchen believes that Indian women should not waste too much time buying groceries. Who would say no to the convenience of being able to select your own groceries, have them delivered to your door step for free, and without the hassles of swiping your credit card. In my view, Farm2Kitchen has redefined the shopping experience by providing an alternative way to shop online, all through Facebook. How to Shop? Shopping for vegetables and fruits is not ...
