Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) voice recognition feature Siri, which appears on the iPhone 4S, can’t understand or speak Chinese. Perhaps it’s learning. But for now, despite most users probably knowing of this limitation before purchasing, it’s a frustrating omission. That’s probably why two young Chinese nerds made the amusing video, below, about the language barrier that stands between them and their digital assistant. Even without subtitles, you can sense the comedically exaggerated frustration at not being understood by your pricey smartphone. My favourite part is when the guy in the car resorts to a ...

I’ll Do That for You If You Bribe Me: Chinese Government Website Hacked?

Like many local governments in China, the government of Longhushan in Jiangxi maintains a website that's intended in part to serve as a way for the government and the people to interact. Although the site is currently closed save the front page and a short message (see image), just recently it featured a section where people could ask questions or make complaints and officials from the government would respond. All was going well until one official, it seemed, started to go off script. When a citizen complained about the difficulty of getting ...
Chinese Cell Signal Boosters in Disguise!

Tech innovation comes in all shapes and sizes, but one of the most difficult questions for tech designers today is how their tech can be integrated into our lives unobtrusively. This is especially true of things like cell towers, air conditioners, power lines, etc. Everybody wants to enjoy cell service and electricity, but nobody wants their view ruined by unsightly signal boosters or their walk to work cluttered with tangled power lines. Sometimes, the integration of a piece of tech requires as much innovative thinking as the actual design of ...
The Recent Facebook Lawsuit in an Animation

byWillis WeeinCreative, Video
The legal tussle between Paul Ceglia and Mark Zuckerberg has turned into an animation, all thanks to Taiwan-based Next Media Animation TV. In a creative fashion, the animators used cannon-powered ships as an analogy to illustrate the lawsuit battle between Ceglia and Zuckerberg. The animation also subtly shows the Winklevoss twins rowing a canoe away from the Facebook ship after they lost their appeal on their multi-million dollar settlement last week. The video is available in Chinese and English. Like it? Also catch: US-Sino Currency Rap Battle on YouTube , by NMA

One week and over 200k hits, this video has the potential to go viral. The animation video depicts the ongoing economic tension between U.S and China in a humorous manner. It also mentions some controversial issues like Liu Xiao Bo, the recent Nobel Peace Prize recipient and the relationship between IMF and the U.S. I trust that you know who the two guys on the right are. Favorite lines: USA: Times are tough in the USA. Listen up Hu, I‘ve got something to say. Help us out, you know what I’m talking about.... China: From ...

Ever thought of getting into the advertising industry? Maybe this video will stop you from doing so. It features a story about how an advertising campaign is made - brainstorming, ideas finalization, art direction and ad presentation. Each stage has one thing in common; they don't reflect very well on the advertising industry. Unless you're an extreme thinker like Bill Hicks, this video would serve more as a comedy than pointing to the truth in the advertising industry (at least not 100% true). Of course, I do believe that such scenes could ...

Want to create a viral ad but lack inspiration? How about creating parodies? Specsavers tried it and enjoyed huge success. The ad is a parody of another viral ad titled, "The AXE Effect - Women - Billions" (over 3 million views), in which a throng of women dashed and swam towards a guy, who was vigorously spraying Axe deodorant on his body. Specsavers created the exact same ad, except the women were turned off by the spectacle instead. The ad ended with a line of promotional texts that spotted the same typeface ...

HUMOR: The Farmville Commercial
byWillis WeeinVideo
Farmville, the most played social game of 2009 (and still top as we speak) has gotten itself a user generated commercial to recruit more farmers. The commercial features creator, Tobuscus, repeatedly shouting "Farmville' in an exaggerated way. I must admit, the word 'Farmville" is still echoing in my mind. He could very well earn a living as a marketer who specializes in repetition to aid viewers' recall. :) Enjoy the video.
