CNN has made the first move towards understanding why Cyxymu (his Twitter username) was the target of the recent DDoS attack on major sites like Livejournal, Twitter and Facebook. Cyxymu has identified himself as George, a 34 year old residing in Tbilisi, Georgia. George told CNN that his Livejournal blog posts might have "irritated" someone enough to incite a DDoS attack. His recent posts include: "How Russia was preparing military agression (sic) against Georgia, how they were training soldiers and mobilizing military equipment, what kind of provocations were carried out by the ...

DDoS Attacks to Silence Cyxymu?

bySarah ChonginUncategorized
The earlier speculation of the cause of the social media chaos has been confirmed. The attacks were all to silence one Georgian blogger with the username, Cyxymu (the name of a town in the Republic of Georgia) across all the sites that were attacked. Social Media has been pulled into the Georgia-Russia crisis to prevent the blogger from being heard. Facebook’s chief security officer Max Kelly told CNET News: “It was a simultaneous attack across a number of properties targeting him to keep his voice from being heard. We’re actively investigating the ...
Social Media Meltdown

bySarah ChonginUncategorized
The Social Media realm has in fact been hit by the DDoS attack. The more popular social network sites have been experiencing longer load times and inaccessibility to some of their services. Twitter users were the first to be denied access to the site. This resulted in more traffic being directed to Facebook, which was already having troubles of its own. This has caused them to point their fingers to a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack - the work of hackers. Infected sites include Livejournal as well. Related applications such as ...
What is DDoS?

byWillis WeeinUncategorized
With Twitter, Facebook and Livejournal down, the evil Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack has caught the attention of Internet users, leaving them bewildered and curious. So what is DDoS? It is an effort to make a site inaccessible to its intended users and preventing it from working normally. This is usually done by attacking the site with a multitude of compromised systems (bots). Because the victim site can't handle the huge influx of traffic/messages, it would be slowed, dysfunctional and forced offline. Catch the video to understand more: Read more on Social Media ...

DoS attack is an attempt to prevent a website from working properly, denying users from its resource. There are several methods of attack and it could be done by anyone. We would be waiting for Twitter to determine the exact cause. Here's what Twitter said, "We are defending against a denial-of-service attack, and will update status again shortly. Update: the site is ...
Twitter Is Down! Addicts Hang On!
bySarah ChonginUncategorized
Twitter is currently down and we don’t know why. Could it be due to the thousands of compromised accounts sending spam earlier today? Could it be a server overload (not likely to be the works of teens though)? Or is it time for the return of fail whale? While the cause of this temporary down time is getting determined, we would like to ask those Twitter addicts to hang on. Twitter should be back pretty soon! Update: It seems like Facebook and Livejournal are acting up too. Is the social media world ...
