After originally partnering with News Corp to launch Myspace Japan back in 2006, Softbank is now giving up on that joint venture says Reuters, quoting a Nikkei report. While Myspace was once one of the world’s first and most popular social networking websites, it has since fallen behind newcomers like Facebook to become the butt of more than a few internet jokes about its failure. It was sold to a group that included Justin Timberlake for $35 million back in June. Now with the closing of its Japan office, Myspace ...

MySpace’s New Strategy: It’s no longer a Social Network

byWillis WeeinBusiness, Web
The battle between MySpace and Facebook for social-network dominance was long over. Facebook won and MySpace needed a new direction to stay competitive. You have probably heard by now that MySpace had recently gone through a design facelift. The new design was to support its new strategy. It's no longer a social network. Instead, it's now an entertainment-network, connecting you to your favorite TV shows, movies, music and celebrities. MySpace has finally decided to play to its strength. Just go to the music category and you will find that MySpace is superior ...

It’s probably no surprise that the consensuses are aware that more advertisers are shifting their attention from traditional media to new media to keep up with changing consumer habits. A recent study by eMarketer predicts that US advertisers will spend nearly $1.7 billion on social sites this year. Using social media for marketing makes sense, Forrester Research’s Jeremiah Owyang says, since it’s an inexpensive way to reach your intended audience. The estimation made is a significant increment from the initial 2010 projections, which forecasted $1.3 billion for this year, as well ...
College Students: “Facebook Is Cool. Others Are Lame”

bySarah ChonginUncategorized
A recent research involving U.S college students from Anderson Analytics revealed that "Facebook is cool and other social sites are lame." A significant percentage of college students (both male and female) have ruled other social sites like MySpace, Windows Live, Twitter, LinkedIn, Hi5 and Friendster lame. Seems like MySpace has made it as the "lamest social site" with 31% of the respondents' votes. Facebook, on the other hand is getting all the love from college students with 82% of males and 90% of females voting it as ‘cool.’ The only social site that matters? Each ...
Social Sites: While Everyone Falls, Facebook Rises

byWillis WeeinUncategorized
A couple of days ago, we reported that Facebook's traffic grew while Twitter remained stagnant. Since then, we were pretty curious how the other social sites were performing, namely Digg, Twitter and MySpace. Interestingly, all of them experienced a dip in unique visits and adopted a flat growth pattern (see graph below). Facebook was the only site that enjoyed a steady growth. Did Facebook steal all the love from the other social sites? With tons of addictive games, quizzes and news feeds to keep its users entertained, Facebook has surely created a state-of-the-art ...
LinkedIn 39, Facebook 33, Twitter 31, MySpace 26

bySarah ChonginUncategorized
For those who didn't catch Twitter's trending topics today, you might be curious about what these numbers mean. Anyone guessing median age? That would be right! The numbers represent the median age of users on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and MySpace. Facebook is definitely aging as its median age increased from 26 in 2008 to 33 this year. We might have parents to blame for this! Twitter is on the other hand, aging backward with 33% of users age between 18 to 29 year old, a significant increase from last year. As you can see ...

Twitter's explosive growth has taken the limelight off Facebook this year. If I was Facebook, I probably wouldn't mind. Reaching 300 million active users and having a chance to frog leap Yahoo and Google should be enough to keep it happy. A graph from ComScore tells a simple fact: MySpace and Twitter are far behind Facebook. Image via Chicago Tribune
NEW: MySpace And AOL Are Twitterized!

byWillis WeeinUncategorized
There are many ways to update our Twitter profile and today, it just got more convenient as Twitter is now integrated with MySpace, AIM, Bebo, and AOL.com. According to co-founder Biz Stone, thousands of MySpace users were seen syncing their accounts to Twitter. There isn't any data from the AOL side yet. "As a proud partner in AOL Lifestream, Twitter will be smoothly integrated into AIM, Bebo, and AOL.com. Some of your other favorite services like YouTube, Flickr, Digg, and Facebook are also part of the action." As always, what Biz chose ...
Twitter The Most Followed Social Media Site on Twitter?

Often, we judge someone's influence on Twitter by the number of followers he or she has. Although we should not solely use this to measure influence, it is to a certain extent accurate. For the fun of it, we gathered the necessary information of each social media site that is on Twitter, and ranked them accordingly. Note: We don't take founders or any personal accounts as the social site's main account. For example, we are not taking into account Digg's founder, @kevinrose but the official account, @Digg. Twitter Standing 1. Twitter Followers: 2,272,802 Bio: Random stuff ...
