Forget about Twitter’s 140 characters limitation. With Twitvoice, we can now tweet with our voice through Twitter. Launch on 31 March 2011 (freshly baked just days ago), Twitvoice was created to provide users with an additional option to communicate via Twitter. Twitvoice allows users to record a 15 seconds audio clip, creates a short-link and sends it to your Twitter network. The idea is similar to Google and Twitter's voice tweet service for Egypt. “It was one of the social media projects we thought might be interesting. It's very simple… record and tweet. ...
World Celebrates India’s Cricket World Cup Victory on Facebook and Twitter

byWillis WeeinAsia
Congratulations to India for winning the 2011 Cricket World Cup at home soil! The world has gone wildly happy for you on Facebook and Twitter. I'm seeing multiple updates per second on both sites. It's nice to see how the world comes together to congratulate India. Even non-cricket fans (like me) are excited over India's victory at the Cricket World Cup. One of the tweet said, “congratulations team India for winning the cricket world cup!!! Celebrations out on the street all over!” Penn Olson’s Sahil Shah has also taken time off ...
India vs Sri Lanka Cricket World Cup #Final Roaring on Twitter

byWillis WeeinAsia
Update: Congratulations India! :) I'm not a cricket fan but looking through the stream of tweets on Twitter kind of brought the spirit of the Cricket World Cup final between India and Sri Lanka to Singapore. #final and #indvssl are both roaring on Twitter and tweets are appearing every second with live updates from the community. You can keep track with the game via the tweets. As far as I know, the game isn't going to end anytime soon. We still have another 5 hours to go. The next half of the ...
Starbucks Begins Campaign for Japan using Twitter, Instagram

byRick MartininAsia, Creative
Some of you may have noticed this past week that Starbucks' Twitter account (@starbucks) was displaying a different avatar. The alternate picture spelled out 'HOPE' with a green circle in the center. The company sent out a message on Twitter on Tuesday explaining its unusual new avatar: Over on the company's website there are more details about the campaign, which is intended to support Starbucks' 20000 'partners' in Japan. Starbucks is encouraging people to print up the 'Hope' graphic and post a picture to Instagram with a message of support ...
Tweets Send Relief to Disaster Victims Thanks to Todoke

byRick MartininAsia, Creative
We’ve written about many ways to help relief efforts for the Japan earthquake already, but here’s one that caught our eye today. Todoke.org (Japanese) is a new service established to address the problem of delivering individuals’ donated goods, which has become an inconvenience for a few local governments without the resources to process and distribute them. The website says that it would be far easier to receive bulk shipments from larger specialized companies instead of single donors. Todoke lists a number of items on its homepage (such as water, diapers, or boots) along with ...
Twestival Singapore 2011 Rocked
byAmelia CheninAsia
The team is back from Twestival Singapore; a local Twitter festival that just ended a few hours ago at TAB. Twestival is an offline event held in more than 175 cities, aimed at raising funds for charity while harnessing the power of social media. Not only did people meet up to have fun, they also remembered to give. This year, Twestival Singapore had chosen to raise funds for the local non-profit organisation Children-At-Risk Empowerment Association (CARE Singapore), to help them in their mission of changing lives of youths at-risk. Our local talent, Jack and ...
After Twitter, Japan Prime Minister’s Office Launches Facebook Page

byWillis WeeinAsia, Web
After launching an English Twitter account, Japan Prime Minister’s office went the extra mile to launch a Facebook page to update the world on the post-earthquake situation. We learned about this initiative through the JPO’s Twitter account. Within a day, the page has gathered more than 5,000 likes. The Facebook page is primarily used to update users with outlines of press conferences. Twitter’s 140 characters limitation restricts long updates. The Facebook page fills up the gap while Twitter shares the links to more people. Connect with us on our new FB page:
Tweet. Meet. Give [VIDEO] #twsg11
byWillis WeeinAsia
We have been writing one post each day for Twestival Singapore since Sunday. The organizing team has put in a lot of effort for tomorrow’s event. So, feel free to drop-by and have some fun with us at TAB tomorrow. For today’s Twestival posting, we want to share something very fundamental about the charity event. That is ‘tweet’, ‘meet’ and ‘give’, the event’s slogan. I caught the Twestival video last year and thought many of us might have missed it. There are so far only about 30,000 views on YouTube. The ...
How Twitter and Twestival Help CARE Singapore

byWillis WeeinAsia
This Thursday is Twestival night. You saw the ad banners, learned about the prizes, tweeted #twsg11, donated and know where to head for a fun and meaningful Thursday night. All this little things are baby steps toward achieving a common goal: A goal to help CARE Singapore, our beneficiary organization for 2011. Wonder what all these mean to CARE? We were curious too. Through Supriya's help, we managed to learn more from Adelyn Poh who is the Co-founder and Director of Enterprise at Children-At-Risk Empowerment Association (CARE Singapore). In her short interview, ...
Twitter, Twestival & Banners Ads #TWSG11

byWillis WeeinWeb
This coming Thursday is Twestival night and our team is glad to help spread the word! Besides our friends from U.S, the rest of you would have noticed the Twestival banner ad beside our logo. We'll run the ad on our site until the Twestival event ends. A little request: We hope all fellow bloggers (we know many of you are!) can place an ad on your blog or site to help spread the word. Besides the big and friendly 728 x 90 ad (click to enlarge), we also have the 125 ...
Twestival Singapore: 24 March at TAB! #Twsg11

byWillis WeeinAsia
Twestival™ (or Twitter Festival) uses social media for social good. It is an event which Twitter users (in fact everyone!) work hand-in-hand to do something meaningful. All of the local events are organized 100% by volunteers and 100% of all donations go direct to projects. Last year, we raised more than US$ 7,000, of which US$ 4,500 was raised on the night itself, making Singapore amongst the top ten nations in terms of funds raised. This year, for @TwestivalSg 2011, we are supporting Children-at-Risk Empowerment Association (CARE). Established in 1997, CARE Singapore ...

A friend of mine sent me this interesting graph from Topsy. It shows the number of mentions of 'Japan', 'Earthquake', and 'Tsunami' on Twitter over time. On 11 March, the day when the natural disaster happened, the number of Tsunami mentions hit 1.7 million. As more corporations join forces to help Japan, the buzz on Twitter became louder. Mentions on Japan hit a whopping 2.8 million on March 16. Twitter played a crucial role to ensure the world is updated with the situation in Japan. Also note that you can now ...
