byWillis WeeinAsia, Creative
The visualizer designed by Tribal DDB and Brandtology analyzes the Singapore General Election Buzz on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Blog). But it doesn't really show us the buzz in real-time. Or at least it doesn't appear real-time. Thanks to Colin Toh, a final year student at National University of Singapore, we now have a web app which captures all the Singapore Election Twitter coverage in real-time. On the homepage, users can select the area of interest on a gorgeous map which will smoothly lead you to the page that tracks your buzz ...
Chinese Web Users Love Social Media – and that’s Great News for Brands

bySteven MillwardinAsia, Business
We've long known that China's hundreds of millions of web users are especially engaged with social media online - more so than users in the US - and now we have updated stats for 2011 that show how huge microblogging is becoming here. A sizeable 42% of Chinese netizens are posting to microblogs - Twitter.com clones such as Sina Weibo, Tencent Weibo, or the new Baidu Talk which I reviewed last week - during their time online. That contrasts to only 10% of Americans posting to a microblog - well, ...

The statistics also revealed that almost half of the PAP ...

We previously posted an infographic featuring the "Top 10 Bollywood Actors on Twitter." The folks at Simplify360 also sent us the female version. From what it looks, the top Bollywood actress on Twitter, Priyanka Chopra (940,000), has more followers than Shah Rukh Khan (850,000). But that doesn't necessary mean she is the most popular Bollywood celebrity in India. I got curious and did a simple research using Google Trend. Turned out, Priyanka Chopra generates far more searches on Google than Shah Rukh Khan in India. Surprisingly, second place Deepika Padukone who tweeted ...
The RIP Typewriters Buzz
byJulian Sukmana PutrainAsia, Web
It seemed that a lot of people on Twitter were saying that typewriters would be no longer exist in near future, so, the term "RIP Typewriters" became a trending topic on Twitter a couple of days ago. But is it true? Well, a report from Gawker said that it's not true. We can still see typewriters being used by people, at least in Asia. The buzz about "RIP Typewriters" was started by a news about Godrej and Boyce, a typewriter manufacturer, which shut down its production plant in Mumbai, India, with only ...

Sina Weibo Launches English iPhone App Interface
byWillis WeeinAsia, Web
Sina Weibo , China’s wildly popular microblog platform, has just updated its iPhone app with an English interface . As Sina Weibo continues to grow (100 million users so far), it will be interesting to see if it could successfully bring in non-Chinese users. Well, at least Tom Cruise joined, even before the English iPhone app version was introduced. We can expect more celebrities to jump onto the bandwagon with this new English interface. China, after all, is a huge market and Sina Weibo provides the perfect channel for celebrities to keep ...

Review: Baidu Arrives Fashionably Late to the Twitter/Weibo Party, and wants your Phone Number

bySteven MillwardinAsia, Web
Baidu has fully launched its own Twitter-like platform, with its new Baidu Shuoba (说吧 meaning 'Talk') site. But it arrives late to a very crowded microblogging party, where Baidu's main portal rivals, such as Sina, 163.com, and Tencent have already gained some popularity with their own Twitter-esque sites. Baidu Shuoba will need to talk loudly and persuasively if it's to generate excitement amongst Chinese netizens, and urgently needs to entice the right balance of celebrities, corporations and regular users to play along and 'tweet' their 140-character missives. The microblogging craze in China ...
Japanese With Tummy-Aches Tweet for Relief
Ponponpa.in is a wonderfully simple website from Japan that aims to bring relief to anyone suffering from a stomach ache by bringing them together on Twitter. The site’s name, PonponPain, is a clever one. “Pon pon” is sort of kiddie talk for stomach (akin to ‘tummy’). So Twitter users who experience #ponponpain can send out a Tweet with that hashtag. As a result, stomach-ache sufferers from all over Japan are gathered on a single webpage. You’ll never have to suffer alone again! Perhaps if @pepto is looking to bring its stomach relief ...
