Walmart has finally sealed the deal on its investment in Chinese e-commerce site YiHaoDian.com. We reported on its announcement back in May - but the transaction seems to have taken longer than the expected two months to nail down. The giant American retailer now takes an undisclosed minority stake in YiHaoDian. Walmart is very interested in the Chinese e-commerce scene, having also invested - with five other firms - the sum of US$500 million in 360Buy back in December of last year. Walmart is reportedly also considering an e-commerce site of ...

Walmart Invests in Yihaodian, a Fast Growing E-Commerce Site in China

After its investment in 360buy.com in December last year, Walmart has moved to invest another Chinese e-commerce site. This time around, the investment falls on Yihaodian, a fast growing e-commerce site in China. The deal is expected to close within 60 days with the amount invested undisclosed. Launched in July 2008, Yihaodian offers more than 75,000 SKUs online. With 2,000 employees and an existing logistics network based in Shanghai, Beijing, and Guangzhou, Yihaodian is serving a growing customer base with next-day delivery of essential daily items at competitive prices. Alibaba Invests $4 Billion and May Surpass Walmart in Sales

byWillis WeeinAsia, Web
Alibaba Group and its financing partners plan to invest 30 billion yuan ($4.5 billion USD) to build warehouses across China. The reason? Alibaba wants to meet a 10-year goal of delivering any online order in China within eight hours. It’s an ambitious goal. The warehouses will occupy 3 million square meters (560 American football fields) and will be built in key areas near Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, Alibaba said in a statement today. “There are bottlenecks because e-commerce is growing so fast and exceeds the ability of local logistics companies,” Chief Strategy ...
Walmart Follows Groupon Model On Facebook
byWillis WeeinWeb
Walmart recently introduced a new feature on its Facebook fanpage, called the Crowdsaver. This new Walmart’s Facebook initiative basically follows Groupon’s model. For example, Walmart will slash the price of its Plasma TV by 18 percent if there were more than 5,000 fans ‘liking’ the deal. So far, the idea seems to be working well. All the deals introduced so far hit the ‘like’ quota. One thing that differs from Groupon’s model is that the deal isn’t just restricted to those who have participated. It’s available for everyone. Walmart’s effort set me thinking ...

Walmart, the retail behemoth is one of the greatest success stories in today’s business arena. It has over 100 million customers per week, which is equivalent to 4 times of Australia’s population. This astonishingly high figure of customers earns Walmart $405 billion in annual sales, which is twice as much as what Costco, Home Depot and Target earn altogether. If it were a country, Walmart would rank the 19th largest economy in the world. Simply impressive. Special thanks to Home Loans for putting together these eye opening statistics and facts about Walmart. Enjoy the ...
Walmart’s Clown Ad: 1.7 Million Views In A Week

Walmart's clown ad claimed top spot in AdAge's weekly viral chart with more than 1.7 million views on the web last week, overtaking Evian's Roller Babies. Another notable ad video that is on the list belongs to Bridgestone's "3 Friends and 1 Whale" teaser. Creativity wise, I would certainly pick it over Walmart's ad. Bridgestone created a teaser that got me hooked almost immediately. The weird settings (a whale in the car?) made it even more intriguing. Walmart, on the other hand, emphasized on low prices, predictable but humorous. Check out both ...
Top 10 Most Talked About Brands In 2009

byWillis WeeinUncategorized
According to Zeta Interactive, the most talked about brand in 2009 is Microsoft. While Twitter might suggest otherwise, the aggregated online buzz (blogs, message boards and online communities) doesn't lie. Apple, on the other hand, made it to 4th position. Due to the recession, discount oriented stores like Walmart, Target and Amazon, all made it to the list. The buzz rating is calculated by a formula that weighs a variety of different factors on a given subject, including overall volume of online posts, and the positivity tone of those posts. Zeta Interactive CEO Al DiGuido ...
Blooper: Walmart Sells All Nude Calendar?!
byWillis WeeinUncategorized
Wendy McNaughton was surfing around walmart.com when she came across a 2010 "All About the Boys" calendar. And I am guessing she wasn't too impressed by Walmart's offer. McNaughton informed a local news site, from which the news caught on fire. "I found a calendar that looks like kiddie porn for sale," McNaughton said. "Why would Walmart, a company that's supposed to have values, be selling kiddie porn on a Web site?" The calendar was removed from the website less than three hours after CBS 5 News contacted the retail giant. "Due to an ...
